We achieved a new milestone reaching 100 MW of flexibility aggregated with EVN's FlexRegler in Austria, by connecting flexibility assets to the balancing services markets. We are empowering EVN's customers enhancing flexibility management and increasing its revenues by strategically bidding across multiple markets.
FlexRegler is powered by CyberNoc, a state-of-the-art Flexibility Management Platform that enables flexibility monetization on multiple markets, offering real-time meter data management, forecasting, fully automated trading, financial reporting, among other novel features.
What makes FlexRegler essential for flexibility management and market integration?
FlexRegler serves as a comprehensive communication hub, seamlessly connecting with the Austrian Power Grid (APG). It manages the trading Application Programming Interface (API), facilitates Automot for mFRR activation and real-time data exchange, and oversees the communication and control of third-party assets. By integrating these capabilities, FlexRegler ensures efficient coordination across a wide range of energy operations.
At its core, FlexRegler includes a powerful autotrader specifically designed for balancing services, such as Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR), Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve (aFRR), and Manual Frequency Restoration Reserve (mFRR). This functionality enables the system to optimize market participation and maximize returns for its users.
FlexRegler is highly versatile, supporting the connection of diverse energy assets. These include battery storage systems, hydropower plants, biogas units, solar PV, wind parks, and other renewable energy sources. Additionally, it accommodates cogeneration units, water heaters, heat pumps, EV charging stations, and similar technologies, making them eligible for monetization on energy markets.
By integrating these various asset types, FlexRegler empowers users to unlock the full potential of their resources, contributing to energy grid stability while capturing value in multiple market scenarios.
FlexRegler's role in the EU-funded Green the Flex project
FlexRegler is instrumental in the Green the Flex EU-funded project, enabling the integration of smaller, decentralized energy assets into balancing services and wholesale energy markets. With its advanced capabilities, FlexRegler aggregates approximately 3,000 distributed devices into a unified flexibility management platform, unlocking their full potential for market participation and supporting grid stability.
This project is coordinated by EVN and made possible through the EU Innovation Fund grant. EVN will expand the current demand response pool by aggregating additional electrical devices. These devices are managed using advanced algorithms and optimized based on customer needs, offering opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions and improve the integration of renewable energy sources.
