EVN Bulgaria goes live in balancing markets with CyberNoc
January 20, 2025

EVN Bulgaria has been successfully prequalified as an aggregator to participate in balancing markets through the EVN Trading company. CyberGrid will now start trading and monetizing the utility’s flexibility in the manual Frequency Restoration Reserve (mFRR) energy market using the flexibility management platform CyberNoc. The country’s Transmission System Operator(TSO), Elektroenergien Sistemen Operator (ESO), has granted approval for the prequalification, enabling CyberGrid to exchange data between the utility, its assets, and the TSO.

How does CyberNoc create added value for the utility?

The virtual power plant allows EVN Bulgaria to fully leverage opportunities in the short-term electricity markets, creating additional revenue streams for both the supplier and their customers. The cutting-edge software provides, among other features, 24/7 fully automated performance, real-time solution with second-by-second updates, a modular and scalable architecture for future asset aggregation, and quick response to grid demands.

The Albena Resort

The Albena Resort is setting a high standard for sustainability by prioritizing green electricity, clean air, and eco-friendly transportation. The resort generates over 50% of its energy needs on-site, thanks to its solar thermal plants for water heating and a biogas facility that processes food waste from its restaurants.

Additionally, the introduction of electric buses supports the resort’s Green All-Inclusive initiative, aligning with international sustainability goals and enhancing its commitment to environmental responsibility. The facility is connected to CyberNoc through a Message Queuing Telemetry Transport or MQTT protocol, an advanced communication protocol that enables fast, efficient, and reliable communication between devices, ensuring an efficient monitoring and management of the resort’s energy resources.

EVN Toplofikacia

The project consists in a combined heat and power cogeneration plant operated by EVN Toplofikacia in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv. CyberGrid establishes direct communication with the CHP plant using the IEC-104 protocol, ensuring seamless integration of all assets with CyberNoc flexibility management platform.
