EVN Naturkraft provides ancillary services using our VPP

Ottenstein hydropower plant
February 23, 2024

EVN Naturkraft currently operates around 250 plants for renewable electricity generation, from hydropower, wind, and solar energy. The Ottenstein hydropower plant is only one example of flexibility monetization in secondary and tertiary control - aFRR and mFRR, respectively. It consists on a pumped storage hydropower plant with 84 MW turbines and 20 MW pumping capacity.

The company can automatically adjust production levels according to changes in electricity demand and contribute to grid stability. CyberNoc provides them access to the electricity market, where they can generate additional revenue streams.

“Reliability and trust are very important to us when we work with service providers. CyberGrid exists since 2010, that is more than 10 years on the market. Therefore, the software developer has proved its reputable position in the market. Many competitors appeared and vanished on the market during these years, CyberGrid is still there.” -  Dipl. – Ing. Ewoud Oosterwijk , Head of operations and maintenance at EVN Naturkraft

Q: How has your collaboration with CyberGrid enhanced your business operations?

A: Flexibility management and renewable energy integration are crucial for EVN Naturkraft. With intelligent control of energy consumption and generation, we highly contribute to grid stability. At the same time, system costs are reduced and additional business opportunities are created for asset owners.

Q: What specific benefits has CyberNoc brought to your operations?

A: As producers, the ancillary services markets open the possibility to intelligently incentivize production. CyberNoc helps to stabilize the grid by controlling and managing energy assets and, thereby, we obtain additional revenues. We can monetize our energy assets and drive the integration of renewable energy.

Q: Can you describe a significant milestone that the company has reached with the help of CyberNoc?

A: In some past years, we generated half million euros in revenues through the participation in ancillary services markets with the support of this software.

Q: How does CyberNoc enhance transparency in revenue reporting?

A: Another advantage that we see is that we add more transparency in the generation of revenue reports, which we are defining together with CyberGrid. This allows us to provide a transparent basis for reports addressed to the company management.
